A popular pub crawl in Bristol is through Stokes Croft and Gloucester Road, to the north of the city centre. Here you will find The Bell, The Hillgrove, The Wellington, The Royal Oak and The Drapers Arms, all serving a great choice of drinks. The Flyer, The Cider Press and The Gallimaufry are among a whole list of venues to experience proper Bristol nightlife.

Head to the Harbourside for a real European feel – buzzing restaurants and bars by the waterfront – but also classic pubs like The Cottage, No. 1 Harbourside and The Ostrich that each have their own distinct characters.

Bristol is steeped in history and you can find out more as you wander from pub to pub along King Street. Follow in the footsteps of Daniel Defoe and call in at The Llandoger Trow, hop across the street to take in some free live jazz at The Old Duke and walk up a bit further to explore The Royal Navy Volunteer that dates back to the 1700s. Many of these have featured in TV series and films, the latest being for the new series of Sherlock. It's also worth paying a visit to The Hatchet, rumoured to be the oldest pub in Bristol.
