ELC Bristol is the joint # 1 ranked language school in the UK based on the British Council Inspectors’ publishable statements. Established in 1969, ELC Bristol is a family-run school which is now part of the Clifton College Education Group. We offer intensive General English and Examination Preparation courses for IELTS and Cambridge.
COURSES
There's an average of 140 students from 25 different countries in the school. The students’ average age was 22 (minimum 16, no maximum). The courses include 21 full hours of classroom time per week plus daily homework. There are 7 levels from A2 (Elementary) to C2 (Advanced). The average class size is 11 and the maximum is 14.
Included in the programme
• Personal study programme with 4 hours’ optional supervised self-study per week.
• Course book every 3 months, supplementary teaching materials and a leaving certificate.
• E-learning service from the moment you enrol until 3 months after you leave.
SOCIAL PROGRAMME
An exciting social programme is arranged every week of the year which includes regular sports, a minimum of two afternoon/evening activities a week and an excursion on Saturdays. The programme is organised by our teachers and is a great way to see the country, explore the local area, make new friends and practise your English.
Free activities may include: School Parties, Film Club, Conversation Club (every week), Banksy Street Art Trail, Jazz at the Old Duke, visits to Bristol Museum and the Arnolfini Art Gallery, Bristol Balloon Fiesta, Bristol Harbour Festival and Bristol’s Light Festival.
Paid activities may include: American Pool and Darts (£5), Theatre at Bristol Hippodrome and the Old Vic (£15 - £25), Golf (£10), Bowling (£15), Harbour Cruise (£10), SS Great Britain (£15), Paintball (£25), live music (£15-20)
Weekend Excursions may include: London (£25), Oxford (£25), Bath (£25), Stonehenge and Salisbury (£38), Cambridge (£25), Glastonbury and Wells (£25).
With more than 50,000 students, Bristol is well-known for its nightlife and music scene. As an ELC student, you can become an Associate Member of the University Students’ Union and you can join many of the clubs and societies during the academic year - the perfect way to make English-speaking friends!
Another special advantage for ELC students is that, if you buy at £10 sports pass, you can then use the Clifton College Gym and swimming pool free of charge as often as you want.
ACCOMMODATION
We can arrange your accommodation in single rooms, usually within walking distance of the school.
